Antique Style Vanity

02.19.2015 by Amanda Hartley //

Today Angie writes:

Diva, I need your help. I’m trying to find an antique style vanity for two of my bathrooms. The problem I’ve had so far is finding vanity styles that honestly feel antique, without actually spending money on something that is that old.

The first bathroom needs a vanity for double sinks, the second requires a bathroom vanity for a single sink. Also, I’d prefer that they not match exactly, as this takes away from the antique feel of the bathroom. So close, but not matching would be ideal. Can you think of any examples I might consider? I’ve had little luck on my own.

Well Angie, I actually have two different antique vanities that come to mind. Each one will fit the needs of your bathroom quite nicely, based on what you’ve described to me in your email. The first one is going to be for your bathroom requiring the double sinks, with the last one being a nice a fit in your single sink bathroom.

Antique Style Vanity Double SinkDon’t let the price of this double sink vanity fool you. The 72″ Kleinburg double Sink Bathroom Vanity is worth every penny for the look you’re aiming for. The best part is that it presents itself in a very tasteful cream marble counter top, while being supported by a very warm looking vanity structure. And the under mounted bisque porcelain basin brings the entire piece together very nicely.

Now the faucets are sold separately, so you may want to shop around a bit for the best match. This said, anything themed for the classic look that comes in a darker tone will work very nicely. The provided storage offered by this vanity will meet the needs of just about anyone looking to fill up this kind of space with a double sink. The material this vanity is made of is of the highest quality, so it will not present any problems with lengthy exposure to humid conditions, such as being installed into a high traffic bathroom.

Now this attractive little vanity is just perfect for your second bathroom. And as you can see from the image to the left, the 31″ Fiesta sink vanity Cabinet comes with a marble counter top, while offering up warm wood tones that vary ever so slightly from the tones found with your other bathroom vanity. This single sink vanity also offers you the option of the under mounted biscuit porcelain basin.

It should also be noted that this smaller vanity offers greater degree of design whereas the one above, is not as “curvy” looking. Based on what you shared in your message to me, this is more of a feature than a problem. It will help to lend a distinctive flare to your smaller bathroom without looking out-of-place. Sometimes avoiding the “matchy-matchy” look to home decor can go a long ways.

If after looking at both of these, you’re still not sold, I do have other options. You could always consider a Rustic Bathroom Vanity or another type of Wood Bathroom Vanity Design altogether. Either way, you do have some solid choices to browse through.

Do you have questions about the selecting or the installation of: tile, carpet or wall treatments (window blinds, etc)? Then email me your tale of woe (diva(at)homemakeoverdiva.com) and perhaps I will be able to answer your questions right here at the Home Makeover Diva Blog!

Kohler Evandale Bathroom Vanity

03.30.2011 by Amanda Hartley //

Bathroom vanities come in many shapes, sizes and styles. One only has to take a trip to a local home improvement store to see what is popular. But what if you’ve gone to the store and you don’t see anything that you like? What then? Well. . . you could consider having something custom-made for you, search the internet or you could see what is available locally special order. Recently I asked myself that same question. And what I found out was rather surprising.  Did you know that Kohler makes bathroom vanity cabinets? I certainly didn’t. I knew Kohler makes the rest of the fixtures in the bathroom; from faucets and shower heads to toilets and tubs. But it never even occurred to me to check for bathroom vanity cabinets. Kohler has several vanities available and much to my pleasure, it appears this is a market they’re expanding on!

One vanity I found in particular that caught my interest is the Kohler Evandale bathroom vanity. I love the simple furniture like design, especially since it has the legs like a piece of furniture without being ornate. Keeping simplicity in mind, while maintaining a classical flair the Evandale has no drawers but does offer two doors.  The doors have matching finish square knobs and a little bit of architectural interest with 2 pieces of trim running vertically across the front and sides.

Kohler Evandale Bathroom Vanity

It comes in two colors and is a three-piece set that includes: vanity cabinet, stone vanity top and under counter sink. On top of that, if you are so inclined they make a matching mirror you can purchase separately. The Evandale three-piece vanity is a great transitional design, which allows the piece to match a variety of bathroom styles. It comes in two colors, Lily (my favorite!) which has a white stone vanity top and Sapele, which has a black stone vanity top. The Sapele color is a beautiful rich wood, while the Lily is white. When looking at the colors, I immediately imagine the Lily in a more feminine bathroom with little glitzy touches. Nothing overly “glam” mind you, but just a little sparkle here and there!  All the while the Sapele looks as though it could lend itself into more of a masculine or rustic design. See what I mean by the Evandale being a great transitional design? Going from feminine to masculine with just a change of color? That’s incredible!

The price of the Evandale is around $1200 depending on which color you go with. So expect to pay more than what you would get off the shelf of a home improvement store. But considering you’ll actually have a quality built cabinet and stone vanity top, from a brand you can trust, I think it’s worth the extra money! And I will definitely be checking out the Evandale in Lily for my next bathroom remodel.

Rustic Bathroom Vanity Design Ideas

01.06.2011 by Amanda Hartley //

Today Tim writes:

Diva, living in Alaska have recently had the opportunity to buy a cabin for a song. It was a great deal and we are thrilled with the possibilities it presents. Unfortunately the bathroom is in need of a rebuild and I am trying to figure out how I can keep the log cabin feel of the place without sacrificing basic amenities? The big item I am trying to figure out is the bathroom vanity. Is there one that is both modern and outdoorsy at the same time? Help is needed, hope you have some thoughts as I am lost.

Well Tim I think what you are looking for are some rustic bathroom vanity ideas. Luckily, the marketplace has a lot of different styles that will give you exactly what you’re looking for. Some of the typical characteristics include:

1) Wood. The wood used in a rustic vanity is often sets the tone for the entire bathroom. Keeping to colors and textures that demonstrate a “log cabin” kind of feel, will immediately add the rustic look feel to the environment.

2) Cold stone surfaces. Not only can a rustic looking surface like concrete or engineered stone offset any aged look to the bathroom, it provides some solid function to the space as well.

3) Metal surfaces. Not as common as other vanity surfaces listed above, this option allows for a really rustic feel, but might lend itself to other issues of cost and maintenance without experience in dealing with such things.

Rustic Bathroom Vanity Design Ideas

Think sinks!

Now for another aspect of choosing the ultimate rustic bathroom vanity design — the sink!  Some great sink considerations for your vanity might include:

1) Hammered out copper. A fantastic look to be sure, it’s also fairly functional. Works well with solid stone or concrete countertop vanities.

2) Ceramic sink. Again, depending on the kind of flow you’re shooting for, this can work well if you are looking for a little more contemporary appearance in this rustic bathroom vanity.

Hopefully these ideas will give you a solid starting place for some great Rustic Bathroom Vanity Design Ideas.

Wood Bathroom Vanity Design

Today Tammy writes:

I am really lost here Diva. Looking to try and revamp my bathroom with something less modern feeling. Ideally, it’s the vanity I’d like to replace and go with wood bathroom vanity design of some sort. Do you have any wood bathroom vanity design ideas that I might look into?

Well Tammy, it sounds like you’re ready to move beyond a modern bathroom and into something with more of a classic wooden feel. Specifically to the point of the vanity, I would say your options are actually without many limits. In other words, you have plenty of choices.

Wood Bathroom Vanity DesignHere are some common examples of wood bathroom vanities to choose from.

– Antique Bathroom Vanity. Fits a single sink, provides for a solid color surface and comes with an easy to clean surface. The design and curves, indicate a classic antique wood vanity.

– Imported Wooden Bathroom Vanity. In this example, we have an oak wood vanity which fits a single sink. The counter portion of the vanity if granite and this model is shipped from China.

– Aqualine Wood Bath Vanity Set in Mahogany Finish. If high-end minimalist design is something you might be interested in exploring, then you might find the above linked Aqualine vanity inspiring for similar options.

Keep in mind that these are merely some of the styles of wooden bathroom vanities available. So take a look at these, find one style that really sings to you and hen let the Internet be your guide. So go on, do some research and see if there are other vanities to a type presented here that match what you’re looking for.

The Louis By Waterfall

08.06.2010 by Amanda Hartley //

Once again the Diva has fallen in love with a piece of furniture.  This time, it’s a bathroom vanity. I found a picture of The Louis by Waterfall in a magazine yesterday and instantly stopped what I was doing. I had to find out more information about the furniture and the company.

The website describes the design of the Louis as “Marie-Antoinette meets Mies Van de Rohe, the beauty of contradiction.” And I must agree, it is a beautiful contradiction. To add to the beauty of The Louis you can chose your paint color. The vanity is available in thirteen different colors, however the Robin Egg Blue is my favorite! For those who want a more brilliant color, I’d check out the China Red or the Blue Jean.

The Louis By Waterfall

As it turns out, the Waterfall company makes its transitional bathroom vanities out of eco friendly materials.  The wood that is used is LEED certified and the paints are low VOC.

After perusing the website, I must say I fell in love with all the furniture. Not just The Louis either, though Louis is still my favorite!  If you’re into more modern tastes, check out the Mailbox!  Perhaps your bathroom has an Asian flair? Check out the China Town.  All the furniture is hand-made in Canada and available only through special order. Expect to wait 6-8 weeks for an order to complete.

The countertops can be ordered at the same time.  They suggest either Caesar Stone’s Brilliant white which is also eco friendly or a completely eco friendly product called 3-Form that is made out of recycled milk and detergent jugs.

Whether you share my love of The Louis or find another style you adore, check out Waterfall transitional vanities today!
