If you are wondering how to install an eco friendly light switch, but aren’t sure if you can do it yourself check out these seven easy steps to eco friendly light switches.  Not sure what an eco friendly light switch is?

No worries, it’s a switch that either runs on a timer, has a dimmer or is motion activated.  why would this be important?  Especially in homes with kids and if you’re a little forgetful, you don’t have to worry about turning off your lights, and thus conserve energy!

1 – Turn off the power at the breaker box.

2 – Remove the old light switch face plate and remove the 2 screws to release the switch.

3 – Use a circuit tester to make sure the power is off.

4 – Remove the old switch, start by losing the screws that hold your hot wires in place, then remove the ground wire.  Pay attention to the positions of the wire because they will need to be installed in the same spots on the new switch.

5 – Start installing the eco friendly light switch, this time start by attaching the ground wire first, then attach the other wires to the terminal screws in a clockwise direction.  Don’t forget to tighten the screws to the terminals when done!

6 – Attach switch to wall receptacle in the same spot as the old one.

7 – Now put the face plate on, and turn on the power in the breaker box to check your work!
